We follow the National Curriculum.
In Key Stages 1 and 2 there is a two year rolling programme which enables children to progress confidently with the same teacher, whilst meeting the objectives over two years.
Key Stage 1
Over the two years we follow the Jigsaw Wellbeing Programme.
Year 1: Myself, Celebrations, Stories, Special People, Belonging, Beliefs,
Healthy Eating, Cleanliness & Personal Hygiene, Healthy Exercise, How to Play.
Year 2: Myself, Celebrations, Stories, Special People, Belonging, Beliefs (different lesson plans from Y1)
Playing Safe, Choosing a Friend, Managing Money

Year 1: Judaism, The Nativity Story, Buddhism, Good Friday, The Muslim Faith and Pilgrimages.
Year 2: Hinduism, Food and Fasting, Faiths in the UK, The Bible, Sikhism, People of Faith.

Year 1: Islam, Christianity
Life’s Big Questions, Marriages, Justice, Poverty & Wealth.
Year 2: Hinduism, Humanism, Belief
Moral Maze, What Happens When We Die, Race & Diversity.

Pupils study the CHRISTIAN Faith in Year 7.

Year 8 pupils study HINDUISM using the coursebook Living Faiths: Hinduism, with extra use of poems, artefacts, web information.

The course covers JUDAISM, and is again based on the series “Living Faiths”,supported by videos of the programme “Strictly Kosher”.

Taught by Mr Bath
Pupils study the religion of Islam, supported by the Living Faiths series, with video recordings of “The Life of Muhammed” and, as appropriate, topical press cuttings for stimulus in discussion on modern attitudes. There is usually a trip to a local Mosque in July.

Our weekly session covers R.E. (such as discussions on moral issues e.g. The Sanctity of Life), general P.S.H.E.E. topics, and also guidance on Career choices for our pupils, including a professional visit from an experienced adviser.
Pupils are encouraged to discuss and debate a wide range of issues, topical and historical, and learn to listen to and appreciate each others’ opinions, thus broadening their own knowledge.
Video and DVD recordings are used as appropriate, and provide stimulus for lively discussion.
Key Stage 3 & 4 PSHEE/Citizenship/Career
The programme has to be flexible in order to address current /unpredicted issues/affairs. ( e.g. Royal Weddings, The Summer Riots, etc)
Pupils broaden their general knowledge & skills in preparation for adult life; they learn to discuss & debate, appreciating & respecting the views of their peers.
Appropriate DVDs / videos may be shown, (e.g. C.E.O.P. re Safety on Line, Teenage pregnancy, anti bullying etc). Guest speakers enhance the programme. (e.g. Fire service, Sexual Health Nurse, Revision advisers).
Years 7-9 start their sessions by writing up recent events/concerns in their “Friday/PSHE Diaries”, & also answer quiz questions on topical news items – displayed daily on our News Wall.
